India is a country of one billion population, caste is almost a fourth wheel of our country! Politicos have always used caste as their medium to reach the vote banks and now its turned into a obsession. Today we stand on the verge of breaking everything we have, just for caste!
Classic example for this obsession is a beautiful art piece in Bangalore which now bears the weight of a unwanted caste symbol more so that the piece of art itself just speaks about "Harmony"
If you head straight from the Bangalore palace, you will reach Kodava Samaja on your left and right after Kodava samaja you have the Cantonment Signal, right at the signal there is a new marvelous cement sculpture, a leading news paper carried a front page article demanding explanation for the same for which the artist and the sponsor gave their respective statements explaining the meaning of the sculpture!
The sculpture has a elephant as its base, the elephant carries weight of a rhinoceros on its back and a tiger on its front, The rhinoceros in-turn carries a tortoise upon which a bird sits watching its prey! a beautiful representation of how exploitation of space and destroying of our forest is affecting our animals. A perfect scenario explaining the reason for all the animal species which are getting extinct. The peace of art is beautifully covered all around by greenery, the most pleasing effect is when stray animals such as dogs or cats take shelter from the scorching sun beneath the elephant, a perfect mixture of art and natural harmony.
This beautiful peace of art now has another burden to carry, A Saffron flag stuck, which is an act to create un-needed controversy, leave alone the people, the government officials are even bothered a least to remove these flags fearing communal violence. Today it is just one flag tomorrow the sculpture is guaranteed to bear more flag weights. Approach the police man who is standing guarding the traffic, he grins with a vague smile and says "It is not in my authority to remove those..." The corporation needs to attend towards this, ask the corporation, they wake bang on! from sleep and exclaim "Statute! what statue? where, when...? it is the work of BBMP.." Knock the doors of BBMP, they scream at you in turn..
Amidst all the drama if as an Indian, you try to remove by yourself, then you are prosecuted for trespassing governament asset.
It only pains me thinking of the artist who had a vision to create something which was completely parallel and unmatched, if only we had the conviction to admire his creation rather than giving it a communal twist. With no other resort, I returned to my chair to pen this article, with a small hope that atleast some one responsible will read and resort to quick action or atleast allow me to remove the same. Help me, support me in this cause! I am neither a political leader nor a religious leader, I just believe in every religion and more over i believe in ART in its purest form.
Let atleast ART remain as ART and not a vehicle for BALLOT!
(I have attached the best possible pic, I could click from my phone, I hope the saffron colored flag on the top of the sculpture is clearly visible and says it all)
